Ships, splashes, and waves on a vast ocean

چکیده

The simulation of large open water surface is challenging using a uniform volumetric discretization the Navier-Stokes equations. Simulating splashes near moving objects, which height field methods for waves cannot capture, necessitates high resolutions. Such simulations can be carried out Fluid-Implicit-Particle (FLIP) method. However, FLIP method not efficient long-lasting that propagate to long distances, require sufficient depth correct dispersion relationship. This paper presents new tackle this dilemma through an hybridization and surface-based advection-projection discretizations. We design hybrid time-stepping algorithm combines domain adaptively remeshed Boundary Element Method (BEM) incompressible Euler resulting framework captures detailed objects with method, produces convincing relationships at modest additional costs.

Dynamic Stability of Ships in Waves

A method is proposed for evaluating the overall dynamic stability of an intact vessel in a seaway. We use an existing ship motions program to study the motion of a vessel with a certain loading condition, speed and heading, in given wave conditions. A deterministic method is discussed for looking at the stability of a vessel over a wide range of these parameters. This is done with a view to giv...

Challenges in Hydrodynamics of Ships and Ocean Structures

Violent fluid motions, high speed marine vehicles and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) are selected as main topics. Violent fluid motions deal with green water on deck, sloshing and slamming. Slamming involves many physical effects. When analyzing slamming, one must always have the structural reaction in mind. This necessitates that hydroelastic effects are considered. Many hydrodynamic pheno...

Navigation of Spacetime Ships in Unified Gravitational and Electromagnetic Waves

On the basis of a “local” principle of equivalence of general relativity, we consider a navigation in a kind of “4D-ocean” involving measurements of conformally invariant physical properties only. Then, applying the Pfaff theory for PDE to a particular conformally equivariant system of differential equations, we show the dependency of any kind of function describing “spacetime waves”, with resp...

Ocean Waves Workshop 2015

The present study investigates the conspicuous shortcomings of the whitecapping dissipation model implemented in WAM Cycle 4.5 [1], following the lead of the work of [2] and [3]. Its dependence on an overall wave steepness unavoidably yields systematic errors when more than one wave system is propagating. The distinctive, complex orography of the Catalan littoral and the fact that the Mediterra...

Waves in the Ocean

In this document we will discuss three types of waves: wind-driven waves, tides and tsunamis. When the wind blows on the surface of the ocean it produces ripples, waves, and swell. Gravitational forces (mostly from the moon and sun) plus centrifugal forces in the solar system produce tides. Tectonic forces such as earthquakes that cause vertical displacements of the ocean floor, submarine volca...
